The fire had broken out on May 10 in the town of Ridder in the East Kazakhstan region. According to the preliminary information, the fire engulfed an area of 300 ha and destroyed 40 houses. One woman died and two men sustained severe thermal burns.

Most of Kazzinc mines, a machinery-building plant and a smelter are located in Ridder. Being a key employer in the town, Kazzinc donated KZT 1M to each family which has suffered loss of their homes.

Immediately after the evacuation, Kazzinc accommodated all the fire victims in its recreation center and provided with three meals daily. They will live there until August when the local authorities complete construction of their new houses.

All Kazzinc operations have announced a Giving Campaign so that its employees could donate personal belongings to the fire victims.
