Application
- jewellery
- Cadmium is used in jewellery in binary gold alloys (green), three-component alloys with gold and silver, etc. Cadmium imparts diverse hues to precious metals.
- nuclear reactors
- Cadmium is good at absorbing neutrons and is therefore used to make control rods that adjust the nuclear reaction rate
- fire extinguishers
- The melting point of low-melting alloys of cadmium with lead, tin and bismuth is lower than water. These alloys are used for electric fuses, fire detectors, plugs for automatic fire extinguishers and steam boilers.
- paints
- Cadmium sulfide is used in oil paint and color wash. Has high covering capacity, resistant to hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide gas and other impacts.
