Kazzinc Implements Emission Reduction Project Jointly with Environmental Authorities Kazzinc Implements Emission Reduction Project Jointly with Environmental Authorities

Kazzinc is the first mining and metallurgical company who on its own initiative decided to implement the most advanced and efficient off-gas treatment technologies in its operations. At the end of 2019, the relevant Memorandum was signed with the RK Ministry of Ecology. Kazzinc commits to implement the most progressive technologies based on the best international practices during the next few years.

The metallurgists and ecologists are now in the process of identification of which methods can be efficiently implemented in operations. Kazzinc, in collaboration with the Ministry concerned, has been reviewing the latest options of environmental protection methods. The best available technologies are being compiled into a reference book which includes progressive systems of complex equipment for different areas of operations. Once reviewed, the most successful options will be selected, jointly with the government authorities, and their implementation will start.

At the same time, the planned environmental protection activities continue. The “Hydropolymet” Project is under implementation at the Ridder Metallurgical Complex, which will allow for upgrade of operations and reduction of pressure on the environment. During the last years, the Ridder Mining and Concentrating Complex has been systematically reducing contaminant ingress into water reservoirs and improving the industrial water recycling system.

The Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Complex has been implementing planned landscaping activities and improving sewage treatment plant operation, where the advanced waste treatment method is implemented using special sorbing agents that absorb metals to reduce their level below the maximum permissible concentrations.
