Further to the previous communications, Kazzinc is providing an update on the situation at the Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Complex and the support being provided to those affected by the incident on 5 May.
Our thoughts remain with the families, friends and colleagues of the two Kazzinc employees who tragically lost their lives as well as the workers being treated for injuries sustained in the incident.
The Company Management has met with both families of the deceased to offer condolences. In line with our commitments, Kazzinc will continue to provide assistance, including funeral arrangements, financial support for their families in addition to statutory insurance, and funding for their children’s education in higher educational establishments of Kazakhstan.
All injured workers continue to receive medical and psychological care. Two employees are currently hospitalized. Specialists from Astana are engaged to provide support.
The incident site remains secured, and the government-led investigation is ongoing to identify the circumstances of the tragic incident. Operations at the wider Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Complex continue, with temporary production capacity reductions expected at both the Zinс and lead Smelters.
Experts from the Department of Ecology and Kazzinc’s own laboratory continue to carry out 24-hour monitoring of air quality.
We remain committed to supporting those affected and will provide further updates as appropriate.”
