As the region's largest private employer over than 20'000, Kazzinc is
committed maintaining an active presence in the everyday life of the
community. Continuous efforts are being made to provide additional
qualification and training opportunities in order to increase the level of
labour mobility in the region.
Sponsorships
Kazzinc contributes annually to a wide variety of charities and sponsors a large number of community programmes and sports teams. Particular attention is traditionally devoted to the region's orphanages and old persons homes. Spreading its support of sport beyond its ownership of the ice hockey team and the backing of the cycling team, Kazzinc is one of the largest sponsors of boxing, football, volleyball, gymnastics and kickboxing in Kazakhstan.
Corporate University
Among world zinc producers Kazzinc is fortunate to have a highly educated labour force in numerous disciplines. The company strives to capitalise on this endowment by organising seminars and courses for staff at all levels. Management in particular is encouraged to continuously increase its level of academic and professional qualification by attending courses organised internally. This programme is coupled with an undertaking to systematically transfer acquired knowledge and skills to staff in the respective divisions.
Ice Hockey
The ice hockey team "Kazzinc-Torpedo" is the jewel in the crown of Kazzinc's contribution to the community. Competing simultaneously in both Kazakhstan's and Russia's First Division, the team also forms the backbone of Kazakhstan's national hockey team in all age groups. The highlight of the team's achievements has been the fifth place in the Nagano Winter Olympic Games in 1998 and a gold medal in 2002 Under 20 Ice Hockey World Championship held in Ljubljana.
Cycling
Kazzinc significantly contributes to the development of cycling in Kazakhstan. The “Astana” national team supported by the Company managed to achieve impressive results in a fairly short period of time. One of its main achievements has been the third team place in the “Vuelta-2006” professional cycling race held in Spain, as well as the first and the third places among team members in general classification.
